A résumé is one of the most important documents one has to prepare while seeking a job. It acts as a bridge between the applicant and their prospective recruiter and is the determining factor of whether one will be getting an interview or not.

Most fresh graduates don’t have enough experience making them unsure how to best present their skills. For this purpose, I and my Amal circle fellow Aqsa Sultan arranged a free workshop on résumé building through our platform The Witty Mentor.

We invited an HR professional with over 10 years of experience in resume analysis and critique as our guest speaker: Zafar Ullah Zahid, he is a motivational speaker, currently running his HR firm Syntax Resources.

The event was attended by people from over 13 cities of Pakistan and 18 universities. It was a highly interactive and informative session. Majority of the people attending joined our platform afterward. The audience actively participated till the very end and some very productive questions were asked and addressed during the session. I’d like to share a few of them here:

◘ What is an effective resume composed of?

◘ Summary or Career Objective?

◘ How can I make my resume eye-catching without going overboard?

◘ I’m still an undergraduate student, what should I write in the “Experience” part of my resume?

◘ How can I explore the qualities that could be mentioned on my CV and what is the best way to mention them?

Overall, the event was great. As a first-time workshop organizer, I gained invaluable experience working closely with my partner Aqsa Sultan, and the rest of the team. We learned a lot about event planning, marketing, and execution, and the exceptional teamwork played a significant role in our success. Surely, good teams make for great experiences.
